Berkshire – Interiors
Background
Gregory Phillips’ interior design team were commissioned to create a luxurious and comfortable modern home that is both practical and beautiful.
Fluid relationships between the interior and exterior spaces are formed via vast sliding doors that open out onto the garden; the luxurious ranges of fabrics, natural stone, red cedar cladding and marble create layers of texture.
The layout of the house evolved from a simple diagram incorporating a protected centralised courtyard flanked by glazed single-aspect rooms affording magnificent countryside views, inspired by traditional country houses with adjoining stable yard
The brief
The brief was to create a glamorous contemporary luxurious house. The scope including all aspects of the interior, all finishes, staircase designs, fittings and built in furniture as well as the kitchen design, bathroom designs, cabinets, wardrobes, desks as well as wall cladding and fireplaces. It also including selecting all furniture, rugs, curtains and blinds.
We designed the lighting, integrated the audio visual, security and lighting control systems.
What we did
Chinese Basalt flooring was used extensively on the ground floor to provide continuity to the spaces and similarly a bespoke stained oak engineered board was used at6 first floor level. The internal cabinetry was designed in a number of finishes but within a restrictive and coordinated palate.
A dramatic double height entrance space was created that links all the major spaces and circulation. Leather and fabric wall cladding was added to create softness and luxury.
A trip to Italy with the client was arranged to select each marble block used in the interiors including the dramatic book matched statutory vein used in the main bathroom.
Outcomes
The interior design was highly successful with delighted clients. Both the architecture and the interior design won several awards including ‘Best House in Europe’.
As did the audio visual and lighting designs as well as the bathroom which featured in Gregory Phillips achieving a specific award for best Bathroom Designer.
