Shropshire

Located in a secluded site at heart of the Shropshire countryside, this substantial new build contemporary country house sits within the grounds of a 19th century country estate where the original house is transformed into a luxury guest house and the new building becomes the main residence.

A tactile brick and timber spiral staircase links the two levels via a central atrium from which the rooms radiate. This design allows all the rooms to have a sense of seclusion and privacy with their own unique view while also being connected to a common shared communal space, ensuring that despite the size of the building there are no corridors within the house.

Luxurious materials are used throughout with long format bricks and large floor to ceiling glazing. Custom made 300mm wide oak flooring, purpose cut, hand selected stone finishes to bathrooms, carefully designed custom joinery in a variety of finishes and a curved brick wall to the staircase all add a finesse to the interiors which complement the quality of the site.

As part of the design the brick walls of each wing of the house continue into the garden, anchoring the building within the landscape and defining public and private outside space, structuring and separating the different aspects outside the house.
