Founded more than 30 years ago, Gregory Phillips Architects is a multi-award-winning studio specialising in contemporary residential architecture, working across period conversions, extensions and new build homes.
Highgate has kept the feel of the hilltop village it once was, narrow lanes, a strong literary history, and some of the finest views over London, all within reach of Hampstead Heath. It’s one of the most tightly held addresses in north London, and its residents tend to want architecture that respects that character rather than fights it.
We’ve completed a number of projects across the area, including a pair of new houses on North Road, close to Lubetkin’s Grade I listed Highpoint, as well as new-build and extension work on Courtenay Avenue, Sheldon Avenue and View Road. Highgate also sits across two planning authorities, Camden and Haringey, and we’ve worked with the conservation and planning teams at both, which matters given how much of the area falls within conservation areas.
Basement excavation has become a familiar part of our work here too, as space at ground level is often limited. We work with a small number of trusted contractors and engineers who understand the particular demands of building on a hill of clay and Victorian foundations.
